The Woman Behind The Woman: Who Is Samantha Ronson

So, many people only know Samantha Ronson as Lindsay's arm candy. A small bling in the otherwise lonely world of Ms. Lohan. She is called that tall, elfish, boy like sidekick that has become the butt of the unnecessary gay jokes that bombard the couple on a daily basis. All the hub-bub got me curious. So I began to do a little digging to who she was, and how she could tame such a Mean Girl.

It's been a while since I've seen anything written up strictly about the DJ and songwriter, who the more I researched, the more I actually liked. I mean, take her out of the tabloid spotlight, rinse away the "she looks like a boy...wait, is she?" gossip, and toss out all the crap that fluffs up Perez Hilton on a daily basis and she spit shines up to be a pretty interesting person.

Ronson was born into a wealthy family in London (jealous), the daughter of writer-socialite Ann Dexter-Jones and real estate entrepreneur Laurence Ronson. She is the younger sister of music producer Mark Ronson (who's the brains behind such amazing artists as Lily Allen, Amy Winehouse and the Kaiser Cheifs) and the twin sister of fashion designer Charlotte Ronson (designs for the likes of Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie and "Grey's Anatomy's" Ellen Pompeo.) While growing up in London, she formed a rap group called "Low Lifes" and began dabbling in the DJ scene.

America's real first glimpse at Sam was in 2000, when Ronson spun live for MTV New Year's Eve 2001 show from the network's Times Square studios. In 2004, she opened for JC Chasez on his Schizophrenic tour. Later, Ronson became the first rock act signed to Roc-A-Fella Records. Yeah... bet you didn't know all that. She released four songs under the label "Super" with very little public interest: "Pull My Hair Out," "Fool," "If It's Gonna Rain," and "Built This Way," (featured in the freaktastic movie "Mean Girls" starring Lindsay Lohan. Coincidence much?)

But now, in 2008 media outlets began commenting on Ronson and actress Lindsay Lohan, who were regularly seen smooching and heavy petting (I love those words) in public. Several newspapers published opinion pieces describing their relationship as romantic. Lohan long refrained from commenting on the exact nature of their relationship, stating through her publicist that she "wants to keep her private life private." When pressed by a paparazzo to deny the rumors, Ronson responded, "Are you retarded?" In September 2008, it was widely reported that Lohan confirmed she was in fact dating Ronson during the syndicated radio program Loveline. During the program, DJ Stryker asked "You and Samantha have been going out for how long now?" to which Lindsay answered "A while." So yeah, Samantha, you were right ... the world is indeed retarded.

We all are wrapped up in how these gals spend their lives together, we forget that they are actually two talented individuals (I know the word "talent" may be a stretch for one, you choose your pick on that.) And who knows, if they are as now reported "on the rocks," she will still be a DJ/singer and Lohan will still be a box-office nightmare. Either way they are just dealing with their own huge, ginormous, gargantuan messes they call lives one day at a time, just like the rest of us.
