Lindsay Lohan goes into 'Labor Pains' | In Bikini

Thursday, July 16, 2009 ·

At this stage in her career, Lindsay Lohan has a lot to prove.

After years of seeing her dominating tabloid headlines as the queen of Hollywood excess, people have forgotten she started out as an actor. Remember "Freaky Friday," "The Parent Trap" or "Mean Girls"? Somewhere in there was a modicum of comedic talent. Only you'd never know it now that Lohan has become more well known for her drinking, partying, a rocky relationship with a DJ and the occasional Web picture of her pantyless couture.

Her latest movie, "Labor Pains," isn't about to change our perceptions. One bad sign is it's not in theaters, as you would expect from someone of her experience and popularity. It will be aired on television, and to add insult to injury, it's not even from one of the main broadcast networks, but on ABCFamily.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

Lohan's "Labor Pains" is a flat, unfunny, witless romantic comedy that I would imagine is as painful as labor itself. The movie, which began as a theatrical release but ended up on television, debuts July 19 at 9 p.m. on the ABCFamily cable network.

Lohan plays a genial secretary of a crusty book publisher who conjures up a lie that she's pregnant to save her job.

What follows is standard comedic fare in which the protagonist's lie gets bigger and more complicated, only to have the story climax with a big reveal of the truth. Think "Tootsie," only with a hundredth of the laughs and charm.
